Tucked away from the bustle of the main road, this charming home on Shook Street sits in a quiet, safe pocket of West where kids play outside and neighbors get to know each other. It's the kind of street where you don't think twice about leaving the door unlocked.
Just across the street is West Bretheren Church, and on Sunday mornings at ten o'clock, the church bells ring out over the neighborhood.
On still evenings, you might even catch the faint whistle of the train passing through town — the kind of sound that makes a place feel alive without disturbing the peace.
A block away stands the old high school, a landmark that gives the street a sense of history and rootedness that's hard to find.
When you're ready to venture out, Parkers Park is just an easy walk away, and downtown is well within reach on foot.
Shook Street is a hidden gem: unassuming, welcoming, and the kind of place that feels like home from the very first day.

The way the morning & afternoon light shine through different sides of the house, dance on the walls and floor, and warm up the space.

The way the stockings hang by the fireplace and you can see the Christmas tree from the moment you walk in the front door.

This is something NO other home in this price range is going to have, and makes this 2/1 feel like a 3/1.

It's truly the heart of the home and creates such a great space for entertaining and staging food for holidays and parties. Don't be surprised when everyone gathers here!

My favorite place to sit with my morning coffee and journal: in the side yard on the porch under the shade of the towering pecan tree.

hours of relaxation have been spent here.
It's time for our family's next adventure: RV life. We home school and own our own businesses, and this is something we have talked about doing for years. Finally, we realized that we would regret not taking the leap, and with our children growing up before our eyes, we had the unshakable feeling that it was now or never.
Quiet! Depending on the direction of the wind, you'll hear the faint whistle of the train that goes through West. Because we are in a back corner of West, the streets aren't busy. The local police are friendly and circle the neighborhoods frequently. Our neighbors are friendly, also! On our evening walks when the weather is nice, there are many people doing the same or riding their golf carts, creating a very friendly atmosphere.
We are downsizing to RV life! One of our goals is to pay off debt, and own our truck, and home-on-wheels outright - in cash! We have to retain as much equity as possible to do that, so a realtor fee just wasn't an option this time around. That being said, we are currently listed on MLS.
This house is perfect for a small growing family, or a couple who love to entertain. With 2 bedrooms, there is room for children to share, and that front room allows a space for guests or an office without losing any living space. If you value space for hosting events or holidays, then this is the perfect "little-big house" for you.
